Tired of the same old burger? Say it isn’t so! But let’s be honest, for most of us the normal toppings are condiments like ketchup, mustard and mayo. If we’re a little more ambitious, we might reach for the dill pickles or pickled jalapeno slices. So, if you have been sticking to the usual toppings, it’s time to think ‘outside the bun’ and start exploring some new flavor combinations with your Free Graze grass-fed burger.
There are many ways that you can add healthy fiber, vitamins and nutrients to your burger for lunch or dinner, if you get a little creative with your grill. Have you ever tried grilled fruit as a burger topping? It’s so easy to choose some delicious types of fruit and grill them, to add flavor and dimension to your Free Graze burger. The fresh flavors will liven up your taste buds, and make you forget about ever making a ‘boring burger’ at home. Go gourmet, with some of the suggestions from our Free Graze test kitchen and let us know what you think!
Turkey with Fresh Avocado Sauce
We know what you are thinking… avocado? But it is a healthy fruit, that people often mistake as a vegetable. Not that it matters too much, since it’s packed full of vitamins and minerals that are good for your health. A regular serving of avocadoes provides vitamin C, B, K and B-6, they provide lutein and beta carotene, fiber and healthy fats, riboflavin, magnesium and potassium.
Healthy eaters know that avocadoes are a nutritional power house and try to incorporate them in as many salads and recipes as possible. You’ll want something light and fresh on the side of this healthy meal, so consider making an Asian inspired coleslaw or insalata misto with a balsamic and olive oil dressing. Skip the bun and serve it side by side for a balanced meal in less than 15 minutes.
Try this recipe from Taste of Home for an amazing avocado sauce that is perfect on top of our Free Graze Turkey patty. And don’t forget to add extra fresh cilantro (also a superfood!) which gives it a delicious summery taste you’ll love.
Hawaiian Burger with Grilled Pineapple
Fancying a taste of the islands? Everything delicious that comes from Hawaii is seasoned with strong notes of pineapple, and it’s not hard to see why this fruit is a winner when paired with moist and tender turkey. Grilling pineapple is a piece of cake too, and you can also pan sear it on the stove or use an inside electric grill to do the job, if you don’t want to head outside to the barbeque.
What really ties this great topping combination together, is a rich teriyaki sauce, and the sweetness of the red onion. Grill the onion at the same time as the pineapple, and they will cross infuse with amazing results. Try this recipe from one of our favorite food bloggers Danae at Recipe Runner.
Figs and Goats Cheese
Talk about mouth-watering! When you combine the salty and robust flavor of warm goat cheese with grilled figs, something magical happens to your taste buds. Not only is this combination elegant (think date night burger or when you want to grill to impress) but it is also loaded in healthy antioxidants and fiber.
Remember to wash the figs thoroughly, and lightly brush them with olive oil to prevent sticking on the grill, and then cook for roughly 5-8 minutes before removing them. Split the softened figs in half and flatten them, and top the turkey patty while hot, with a generous portion of goat cheese. For some extra healthy greens and nutrients, consider adding some fresh arugula to your patty.

Brown Sugar and Butter Grilled Apples
If you prefer a sweeter kind of topping for your Free Graze cage-free turkey patty, and you’re a big fan of apple pie, you are going to love this suggested combination. You know how the sweetness of cranberry sauce makes turkey meat taste that much more delicious? The combination of brown sugar, butter and apples hits a similar and satisfying culinary note we think you’ll really enjoy.
It takes a little extra time to core and seed your favorite apples. For this recipe, we recommend a sweet yellow apple with a soft flesh, like the Honey Crisp apple or the decadent Golden Delicious variety. And if you really want to hit that sweet apple pie note on your turkey burger, add a little cinnamon and nutmeg to the mix. It may sound like a strange combination, but you’ll have to trust us… it’s really good. And you can even save time by grilling them in foil packets, as suggested by The Spruce Eats.
If you love sweet and spicy, or the rich notes of sweet and sour, you are going to love how grilled fruits taste on your Free Graze burger. The extra fiber from certain types of fruits will keep you feeling full longer, and you’ll also feel good about having a more nutritionally balanced meal.
